blackhead, co.clare, 24th may 09

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People: myself and nthclare

Duration: 3-9pm

Tide: high 17.45

Weather: overcast - wind eased as day went on

Bait: lug, mackeral, squid, sandeel

Rigs: 3 hook flappers, 1 hook pat, pennell pulley - whatever rigs were left!

Results: me blank, nthclare 2 dogs

Report:

have been struggling to catch since the 1st of march out west so decided a session in blackhead was necessary to restore my confidence - how wrong i was!!!

whatever way the current was running it kept managing to push my rigs back into the rough ground only 30/40 yards out - first 3 casts on one rod all lost

had it out further on the other rod extra hook on the pennel wrapping round the rig body - anything that can go wrong did - the bait elastic catching the hooks - it seemed like i was never fishing - the rigs werent unclipping etc. etc.

had a few nibbles more than likely crabs - nth clare brought in a masive spider - after about 3 hours he had the dog at distance on a sandeel

and then got another one before leaving at 8

started to think about it now after yesterdays session

ive blanked 13 times in a row now since march the 1st in galway and clare - alright some places are exploratory - but its gone beyond ridiculous now

the motivation is certainly waning - i think ill have to go to connemara at this rate!

wait a minute - i did that and blanked too

I've given up on Blackhead hasn't fished well for me in years... I've a few spots around South Connemara that don't suffer heavy fishing pressure if i'm not in Wexford this weekend we may venture out that way ;)
