GREYSTONES 22-05-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, fishface and john bunn

Duration:me ,4-30pm-10pm, lads 7pm-9-30pm

Tide:rising

Weather:warm, dry

Bait:rag,lug,mack,squid

Rigs:flappers,mini-rigs

Results:me,doggies and short spined sea scorpion, fishface, dab and doggies, john bunn , doggies, flounder and plaice

Report:I got to the rocks a couple of hours before the lads but didnt catch anything till shortly after they arrived at 7-30pm. Lucky for me it didnt rain as i forgot to bring my coat  . It was a very mild evening and Fishface was first off the mark with a teabag sized Dab, still counts though   . John Bunn joined in the action with a nice flounder of 26cms and then started pulling in doggies.

I got a doggie next followed by a sea scorpion on the mini rig, which consisted of a snood with a size 4 hook attached to a 1oz weight fished in amongst the rocks under my feet.

P1070782 (Medium).JPG

P1070783 (Medium).JPG

At one stage i cast out a 3 hook flapper which cracked off  . Later on I got a good bite and connected with something heavy, and i was amazed to see 3 doggies on my trace   . It was a good haul up the rocks and when i set about unhooking them i noticed i had also brought in my trace that had cracked off , weight included.

P1070786 (Medium).JPG

I got 6 dogs in all and the two lads similar numbers of dogs, with john bunn also landing a plaice, 29cms.Nice to see a few fish around.

Nice plaice for John Bunn, i was hoping to get one there but i'll have to wait till next time. Wicklow Harbour it is so Al

Not to start the cheap/expensive rod debate again but i was glad i had a decent rod, dont think i'd have landed 3 dogs plus 2 x 4 oz weights on a rod from you know where   (or would i :? :? ,,now theres a thought, i'll try it next time  ) Was only hoping they'd stay on the hooks till i landed them

Good work lads, great report and pictures as always. Eyes you are some jammy git, three doggies and your cracked off trace all at once, I'm sure that took some hauling in alright. Well done on the Plaice John, I've been after one for a while, actually I was out in Greystones yesterday in the hope of catching one but all I could manage was dabs, doggies, long spined sea scorpions and a whiting, maybe next time.
