ballycotton doggies, 19-5-09

#1 Post by red »

People, me, phil, peter:

Duration, 200-2300:

Tide, low and rising:

Weather, nice:

Bait, frozen mack, crab:

Rigs, 2 hook flappers, flattie rigs with beads:

Results, doggies, doggies and more doggies:

Report, got a phone call to see if i fancied chancing ballycotton for a few macks as a few have been landed there in the last week so couldnt refuse. i reckoned the weather might have driven them out but it was worth a go. i started off with feathers but nothin was taking so put on a 2 hook flapper with mack/crab. the doggies were onto the mack straight away. it was fish after fish for a while. i gave the feathers another go but with nothing showing i went back back to the doggies. it was a fish a cast again and i stopped counting at 10. most of them were very small with the very odd decent one. the other 2 lads were the same but not as frequent as me, i reckon i was hitting a better patch of water than them as i was casting to the left and they were straight out. :D . after a while i pulled out the spinning rod and put on a flattie rig loaded with beads, size 4's and a 2 oz lead. i was into another doggie straight away. it was really good craic tryin to pull them in and up onto the pier on such a lite rod. a few were deeply hooked and it was tough to get them free so i put on a 1/0 and it was much easier. it was doggie after doggie again till we ran out of mack and they didnt seem to want the crab so we packed up at about 2300.
i didnt expect too much there so to get so many doggies it turned out to be a good evening. i know a lot of guys dont like catching them unless its to save a blank but i dont mind them, especially on such lite gear
