SAI SAC MA#4 Cashen Estuary co. kerry
People:Dbrock, boycie, Keith, cormology, Rampent Snagfish, donal, Eric, fishaholic, alby
Duration:2 - 7
Tide:down to low water
Weather:strong southerly wind, horizontal rain
Bait:the lot, mainly crab & rag used though
Rigs:3 hook flappers mainly, not much casting rquired
Results:flounder & 1 silver eel
Report:
Driving rain & strong southerly winds greeted the 9 SAISAC members who took on the challenge of fishing Cashen on Saturday. 2 4x4 ferries were kindly provided by Dennis & Donal to ferry the gear down to the pegs as a few of us trudged down travelling lighter than usual. Unfortunately we couldn't peg "around the corner" where plenty of fish were taken last year due to lots of small boats being moored there, so we were pegged closer to the carpark out of neccesity.
At 2 o'clock various cocktails were thrown into the middle of the channel and it was soon apparent that there was a lot of weed in the estuary, and the run from right to left down to low water was very strong! 10/15 minutes in and traces were retrieved, happily Boycie, Dennis, Donal & myself brought in flapping flounders, along with a stone of weed early doors.
Next cast I saw Eric bring in a pair of beautiful flatties, and the race was on. Donal managed to bring in a a nice flattie every so often and the lads at the far end on the low pegs were having more success than us on the high numbers. (I'd nothing for the rest of the day and Mark did brilliantly to catch 3 flats late on).
At the final reckoning it looked like it would be close between Donal with his good sized flats and boycie with his bag of allsorts. Well to be fair they couln't be seperated on 178 points each, but Boycie had 7 fish to Donal's 5 which left him the winner. A silver eel of 25cms (worth 35 points) was the clincher for Boycie. Eric & Dennis as usual fished strongly and filled 3rd & 4th, Keith was fifth & Mark took sixth with his 3 late flats. John Paul couldn't unfortunately make it 6 in a row due to being pegged on a horrendous snag (tremendous work Donal), but he did do really well to get a few fish late on. Cormac & myself made up the numbers!
1st Boycie
2nd Donal
3rd Eric
4th Dennis (dbrock)
5th Keith
6th Mark (Fishaholic)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additionally, the winner was seen later on Saturday night trying to swap his winning voucher for a pint of heineken and deep fried bree in a pub in Ballybunion.

was really tough early on with weed and current through the channel, cant believe i contemplated using a plain lead, qaulity of the flats where very good, with donal taking a fish that must have been close to specimen at 45cm

UP THE DEISE!!!!!!!
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
