Court Town 17/5/09
Me
lug, sand eel and the berkley gulp Im trying to use up
2 hook flappers, mack spinner and jelly lead head.
Slightly overcast big swells coming, the jet ski merchants were loving it, Think the tide was nearly fully in????
2 Dab (they might not be dab)
5.15pm to 7pm.
First port of call for the day was Court Town angling centre, delighted it was open of a Sunday unlike some of our city establishments. Extremely friendly reception, amazing selection of gear crammed into such a small place. I would now rank it as my favorite in the country. The guy in the shop, Ill get his name when Im back on Wednesday' recommended I head down the beach but Im not really a beachy angler and Id no wellies or beach-caster with me.
So I set up on the pier on the right of the harbor. Set up two rods, with lug, tipped with half a sand eel.No bites to be seen, the swell was making my rod dip so I don't think Id have seen any small bites, also the whole sea in front of me was brown with sand. Had a few cast with my spinning rod to keep myself busy, caught a great deal of sea weed. Other lads set up on the other pier at about half 6, they were all ledgering some small bait fish, bigger than a sand eel, smaller than a mackerel, I dunno what they were up to?
For the craic on one of the rods I tipped the lug with strips of that berkley "flounder" stuff and left it out as I packed up the rest of my gear, it was starting to rain and I had to hit the road. So all ready to go I reeled on my last cast to find two dab (are they dab?) loitering on my hooks chewing on the berkley bait? Will wonders never cease? Back they went, had some struggle to dehook one of the fellahs, I have a forceps but I must get a decent disgorger, Im not used to flatfish and in fact those two are the first flats I ever caught! so go me!
Ill be back again this week, hopefully better weather and I might hit the beach.
Also I used pyramid weights for the first time and they were superb, I highly recommend them and half the price of wire grippers, they were great for casting and better then anything I had used before, on the retrieve they don't snag as much weed and you get a better feeling of the ground you're dragging them over, so 100% worth a try.

Nice report there Cormac. I was to be down there for the weekend but never made it with sick kids! I have had trouble with id's before but I'd go with flounders and not dab's.

Re: Court Town 17/5/09
Ill keep this brief, I was back in court town last night, I got a new gemini disgorger for all the flats I planned to catch, the boys in the shop threw me an extra pack of lug too, It was just too windy on that sorry excuse for a pier! For my own safety I moved to the beach to the right, Zip zilch squat, 3 hours nothing but big waves, The surfers were out this time. Just not fishing conditions, Went back on the pier at the end with feathers to see if I could muster something, you win some, you lose some.
Im going back again tomorrow! C'mon youse FISHIES!

Re: Court Town 17/5/09
Loads of fishing bodies in Court town last night, Was too tired after working late so gave it a miss even though conditions were 100 times better than the last few days, Im now in work again and staff are none the wiser that the little parcel in the bottom of the fridge is 2 day old lug and some defrosting sand eel, ssssssssshhhhhhhhh
