Big Cork Bass

People, me and a friend Phil:

Duration, 2130-0100:

Weather, very slight wind, clear sky:

Bait, crab, razor, frozen mack:

Rigs, 2 hook flappers:

Results, 2 doggies and a big Bass :lol: :lol: :lol: :




Report,
headed to a beach in Cork that has produced a good few Bass in the last few weeks. the surf was down to 2inch ripples about 3 foot out so it didnt look good.
we were set up at around 2130 and cast out 3 rods, all with razor. things were very quiet for a while so we put crab on 1 rod. straight away Phil had a very strong knock on his rod with the crab. he left it for a second and it gave a very aggressive looking pull so he struck. we were convinced it was a Bass. shortly after he landed a good sized doggie :evil: :evil: :evil: got a quick photo and he went back.
i put fresh bait on both rods, razor on 1 and mack and crab on the other. things went quiet again, then BANG, my rod with the razor nearly buckled, the tripod flew over and i nearly needed to change my pants :oops: :oops: . i grabbed the rod from under the tripod. the line was slack and i started to wind as quick as i could. i soon caught up with the fish who fought like nothing ive ever felt. it took a few minutes to land it but eventually i had a huge Bass on the beach. Phil grabbed the tape mesaure from the box but for the life of me i cant remember the total length of the fish but i think it was in the high 70's(i think it was the shock). ill find out off Phill later and put it up. i weigthed it at over 4kgs but my scales is only a cheapy one for luggage so its not the best. even at 4kgs(8.8lbs) id be fairly happy but id love to have known the true weigth. we got a few quick pics and i went to put it back. i held him in the water but he took a while to even give a small kick. i held him a little while longer and could feel him trying to get free so i left him go and off it went to be caught again. i went for a look for at the pics but the was disgusted to see only one of me with it came out properly. the rest were too dark
i had another small doggie afterwards but i dont remember much about it. i was still buzzing from the Bass.

i only caught my first Bass 3/4 weeks ago and now have 9, all from the same beach. one of the other ones was 67cms but i didnt put up a report as i didnt have pics and didnt think id be believed. all the rest were between 43-46cms. its good to see the nets havent killed all the Cork beaches. :

Wow some bass red congrats you are having a good time of it and fair play for returning it i think sometimes people feel the need to take it away for more photos and evidence that they caught it well done great fishing beautiful fish! pat

Thats a super bass, well done and only to have caught your first a short while ago. Looks like you've found yourself a nice beach there.

Great bass, well done Dennis. Good to see there are a few bigs ones left in East Cork.

Excellent Fishing, Denis. Must see if the friends can accommodate a visit down there shortly.

Take a bow mate, so many people would have kept that fish and for what..? Ye have a great pic of it and pls God the fish is alive still and may breed soon.

cheers for the comments lads.
the fish was 73cms. cant believe i didnt remember but i was hyper afterwards.

i spent over 6 months searching for my first Bass but really put in a lot of time in the last month or so and it paid off with a good few. ive been lucky but im still raging i have no proper pics of the 67cm one last week :evil:


also, ive been told that the 2nd doggie above might be a bull huss, something to do with the spots??
these pics are just zoomed into the one above. it was 75cms if that makes a difference??
anyone know?

you could be right there, the give-away being the start of the dorsal fins above / forward of the rear margins of the pelvic and anal fins. Easier to tell when you look at the mouth, the GSD has nasal flaps which are seperate and are not continuous with the upper lip.
