Guessing I would say not. Is it UK or EU issued?

Maybe have a look here http://www.transport.ie/marine/MaritimeSafetyDirectorate/MSO/MaritimeRadio/Forms/index.asp?lang=ENG&loc=2058 or maybe give them a call.

Let us know how you get on.

I don't see why not! While a UK radio license is not valid if your boat is based here the operator certificates should be similar so I believe you can apply for an Irish license and then an Irish call sign and MMSI number with your UK paperwork!

Send an e- mail to this address to get an official answer to your query: radiosurveyors@transport.ie

Hi all
Thanks for the replies -

I've actually decided to do the course locally - chatted with Ballybunion Sea rescue at the weekend and they'll be running a course locally shortly - if anyone else is interested PM me and I'll let you know the details - it will be a weekend course.

There is also the idea they'll run boat handling courses which I'll also watch out for and advise if anyone else is interested!!

Thanks
