Kilteery Pier, Limerick May 11, 2009

#1 Post by simplywabs »

People: Me & Gabriel

Duration: 20:00 - 22:30

Tide: high going low

Weather: windy

Bait: squid heads, Mackerel, sandeel

Rigs: 2 hook flapper

Results: 1 (whiting) and lots of crabs, crabs, crabs, crabs and more crabs...

Report:

Trying to get most out of the great weather. Gabriel and I started to drive out and search for the elusive first catch. We arrived at Foynes Pier but unfortunately there is a barrier which only allows people with badges to come in. We then decided to drive further and go to Kilteery Pier as advised by Donagh. It was good site where I can park the car and fish direcly from on the side of it.

It was quite windy but looks good enough for a fishing night. In less than an hour Gabriels rod fell down and we thought its just the wind blowing it, he grabbed it and positioned it back again. After a few more minutes he decided to reel it in and thought its heavy due to some weeds. Whoala! there's a fish at the end of the line. His first catch! A whiting and a crab on the other hook. We are so happy to have started catching... not knowing that was the last of it for the day anyway... after that we got another carb... then another crab, and another... until we just got tired of pulling them and throwing them back... hahaha :D

We'll be back again and hopefully more fish than crabs... Best part of the site is that we didn't lose any rig.
