If your stuck for bait?
I called in to the Chinese cash and carry today ( tramore rd cork)...
I bought a KG of raw frozen black tiger prawns for the BBQ.
They had all manner of frozen fish/prawn/shrimp/crab/and other stuff I could not identify.
Seriously good selection.
They even had frozen "soft crab".
The prices were very good.
They had a fresh fish section too wit Mac and other bits and bobs....
No lug daw!!!!

Re: If your stuck for bait?
i buy stuff there all the time and was in there today for mack. fresh mack used to be 4 for 5euro but today they were 1.20 each. still cheaper than the english market(by 30c) but much handier. i get squid there too. local tackle shop are 5.99 for a box. this place was 3.99 for the exact same box with same packaging(just proves how much the tackle shops are ripping us off). last time i got them they had them in different packaging but were only 2.99 for same sized box
   .
 .
i saw the frozen soft shell crabs 12 for 8euro i think. wasnt sure how good/bad they were so left it off.
the restaurant is meant to be good too. buffet style noodle bar for 9.99.

Re: If your stuck for bait?
if your coming from musgrave pk its in one of the last places on the left. theres signs on the road from either side just at the entrance.
fresh mack 1.20 each tackle shop, 3.00 for 2 but frozen.
frozen squid 2.99/3.99 tackle shop, 5.99 for same size box.
fresh tope, 5.99 per kg

Re: If your stuck for bait?
don't forget the Biffo Baits option - rashers will catch whiting. Forget about sausages and black pudding though.

Re: If your stuck for bait?
it just says "soft shell crabs" on the packaging. i think the labeling says their imported from the states but i could be wrong.

I was sold something similar from a tackle dealer believing they were frozen peeler crabs. They looked good and were a nice size but when I read the package they were some sort of soft edible crab from Asia. Had no luck with them

Re: If your stuck for bait?
i popped into the asian place again today on the way home from work to get a fresh mack for tonight and saw nets of razor on the counter. 8euro a kg. they were pretty small but i thought id chance them anyway. when i got home i opened them up and bagged them. theres probably enough bait on them for 1 hook but over 40 in the net and they cost 7.50. their not Irish tho. imported from Holland but at that price i thought id chance them.
whether their any good or not i dunno.

Re: If your stuck for bait?
just back from there again and they had a huge tank full of live, fresh razor. a good bit bigger than the last batch i got but still a little bit smaller than the ones in tackle shops.
i reckon 3 of these are the same as 2 in a tackle shop. i bagged them in 10s and put them into the freezer. i had 76 in total for 26euro. i worked out that the same amount of bait would have cost just over 50euro if they were being sold as bait and not food. 100% mark up price.
they still have a lot left so might be worthwhile taking a spin over to stock up if its near by.

Re: If your stuck for bait?
cool, i collect my own razor, but if their good and you were stuck...great!
Have you had any luck fishing with them???
The fresh caught and quickly frozen razor can be deadly for bass/cod/coal/whiting/dogs...
Did you get any noodles too?!?!?

Re: If your stuck for bait?
their really good for bass, but we caught loads of codling on them too.
The big clams can be cut in half then bound with elastic and ready to thread on to a 4/0 hook.
Its speeds up the baiting up when the fish are on the feed.
I would wrap it with squid too if their too many crabs or whiting...
A great bait ..and fun to collect too!
