collimore/dunlaoighre disaster

#1 Post by brows79 »

what a disaster of a day i had, went to collimore, to try out new reel i got after the tried n trusted one died on me last wk, also brought my spinning rod in case of mackrel showing up, had about 6 rigs wit me and within 15 mins lost 3 from the futherst rocks b4 the fencing, on top of that my spinning rod got caught and on pulling it out from weed it only goes and snaps in two, right down the middle 0f a very expensive rod, meanwhile the chap beside me starts to pull out mackrel with his two euro feathers then i took a step back and stood on my sunglasses and yes u guessed it, they snapped in two, with 3 rigs left i decided to go down east pier in dun laoighre and stopped of at bullock and paid 6euro for 3 sets of feathers, gets there and realises i left the rigs bak at the rocks so after paying 6 euro for 3 hrs parking decided to use the feathers and see wot happens, first cast ,lost feathers 2nd cast lost feathers, and the last pack i had i cut in two using scissors to open pack its now 2.30 and i paid parking till 4.30, but no rig or feathers, thats wen i decided i shuda stayed in bed, only consolation was the 2 mackrel i caught in collimore, spent 12euro,a spinning rod, sunglasses and went home with 2 fresh mack, i had started with 3 frozen ones, will i do it again,,,,,,,,,,, you better believe it

nice you caught a couple though.

coliemore's a ground tackle graveyard. if spinning you need to keep it moving.

ive had 2 sessions like that(maybe not as bad tho) and im fishing less than a year.

first up was a cheapy shakespeare rod i had(20euro). first cast with it i hit the pier wall and snap. id driven 50mins to the pier so i had 1h 40mins round trip for not even a cast.

2nd was on another pier. i was pulling in something that was heavy when i heard a snap. next thing i knew my reel and the top section of the rod was in the water. i just stood there in shock not knowing what happened. i thought it might have been my own fault and that i didnt thighten the rod in the seat properly. luckily enough a hungarian guy next to me was able to stop laughing long enough to get his rod around the line that was floating with the top of the rod and pull it up.
next thing i was pulling in the reel, then the tip of the rod and then a double of doggies   . the part of the reel that sits in the seat had snapped in 3 places with 2 bits still in the seat.
i got it replaced tho without any hassle from the shop.

i can laugh about it now but not at the time.
