ALL OVER WEXFORD AND WICKLOW 07/05/09

#1 Post by WrasseBasher »

People: me and mate

Duration: all day

Tide: low

Weather: windy :(

Bait: everything

Rigs: mixed

Results: twaite shad, brownie, dab, sea scorpion, tompot blenny, dragonet, gold sinney, corkwing

Report: wanted a bass so headed south, heard about these twaite shad so decided to pop in and have a bash at em and add to the species list. arrived at venue and relised i left my lures at home doooooohh    . lucky enough the cafe had some in stock    back in business. landed three shad and a brownie well chuffed. decided to move on to the coast as bait was starting to stink the car. hit a beach and found it to be un fishable checked out a few more with similar results. finally found one with shelter and it looked well bassy but tide was out and there was two seals working the coast  . gave it a bash anyway but nothing stirring. decided to hit wicklow pier on way up and maybe catch eyesreillys gurnard  . caught a goldsinney, then a tompot then a sea scorpion 3 i hadnt got for species hunt that was five added to the list today :D :D :D . got some corkwing and a couple of dabs but it was time to head on felt like we spent most of the day driving and didnt get our bass but well happy with other species. an enjoyable day even if the fishing was a bit slack. if anyone is willing to share a bass mark before the ban id appreciate a pm, all c + r of course. Gary

Good to see the variety of fish improving in all the posts lately. If the weather down there is as bad as up here fair play to you for getting out.

Sounds like a good days species hunting alright, I just noticed you also caught a Dragonet. Did you catch it from the pier in Wicklow? They're an unusual little fish that you don't see caught from the shore all that often and one that I've never managed to catch myself, good work.
