windy waterford 6/5/09

#1 Post by seanie35 »

People:me

Duration:9 till 12

Tide:dropping

Weather:strong south westerly
Bait:softback and peeler crab

Rigs:4/0 flapper

Results: 2 bass

Report:looking at weather forecasts all day in anticipation of this session but the wind was still a bit to westerly to get the surf up good, it was howling for the first hour and blew the tripod over 3 times[ lesson learnt take bucket off tripod when windy  ], wind direction also flattened the surf but still choppy. as soon as it got dark got the 2 fish within 15 minutes of each other not big fishies . fished on hoping for the elusive third but the wind died, moon came out and low tide sent me packing. missed 3 bites aswell but they were timid enough. 8)

Well done Seanie fair play to braving it out,i hate fishing in strong winds give me rain anyday  .With regards to the tripod blowing over a good tip that i got recently is to get a few big stones from the beach and put them into something like an onion bag or a few carrier bags and just put them onto the clip on the tripod. After that try and fish with the rods been placed in the direction the wind is blowing,it does help bitedetection as well.

i found it helped a little to just lay the rods against the tripod rather than fully up on it after casting but depends on what your fishing into :D cheers for the tip

nice to see you got your rewards for sticking out the winds seanie. can be a real pain :x :x i always bring a bucket out with us for bait and to give the wee chaps a chance to recooperate in. but when filled with water it keeps the tripod well grounded in strong winds
well done again man :D
