Shad at St Mullins

#1 Post by Ashley Hayden »

The Shad are in at St Mullins. The river though is high and dirty from the recent rain and this is definitely effecting the fishing. However there are some fish being caught.

Duncan Cole (pictured), a visitor from Northern Ireland, caught five Shad in the time that I was there, all on a blue/silver 13.5grm Tazmanian Devil.

Hehe it,s realy looks like small tarpoon and fightin also well. I back from St.Mullins. I was fishin for 2,5 hr between 4pm-6.30pm and got 21 fish, and many more empty hits. Biggest fish were little bit less 1kg. Water clarity is good enough and is lot of fish in the river now. tasmanian devil worked well :)

Best time is on high water, when level is still rising-check the tide tables for high levels, for Dunmore East, and add 1hr

I was up in St. Mullins today and I have to say the river is chock a block with Shad. I lost count of the number of Shad I caught with many more lost. Some very good size Shad too, with a few specimens being caught. They seem to be a good average size this year. Big schools of fish in certain areas.

Amazing pics and sounds like great fishing too. Do you ever enter your pics in competitions or do you do this as a job

Was down there today myself,

Great craic, had over 20 fish & must have lost twice that many. Set the rod up at the car and thought i'd have a cast to make sure everything was in working order and had a fish first cast :D

Had one specimen 1.28kg, weighed & verified by Ronald from the site. Himself & Davy had a good number of fish too.
