Wexford session and the one that got away 1/5/09

#1 Post by bigsod »

People:Tony Fella and me

Duration:7 till 2:30

Tide:2 hours of falling then most of rising

Weather:beautiful

Bait:lug, rag, mack, sandeel

Rigs:all sorts

Results:2 bass,51cm and 25 cm, whiting, codling, 5b rockling and loads of doggies

Report:Arrived at first spot and the omens looked good with a 25 cm bass for tony on his first cast, but apart from a few small whiting this spot did not produce so we moved on down to another mark nearby and were into fish straight away. We had loadsof dogs and whiting and then i landed a 25 cm codling, my first of the year. Then i got a massive knock on the rod and reeled in a bass of 51 cm, nice to get in on the bass action.Towards the end of our session i got a cracking bite and reeled in only to loose the fish in the surf, it felt realy good and when i got to look at my rig the hook had snapped, serves me right for using size 2 hooks i suppose.A good evening was had by all even thogh tony was plauged with doggies think he got 14 in total.Tony will add pics soon.

Fair play sod on a cracker and a codling! Looks like you two had a smashing session. And no rod damages too

I headed up to Clougher Head hoping for a Codling or a Coalie. Thought I'd try north for a change. Big Fat Blank :!:

They are not feeding hard yet Rodger due a combination of factors . We have noticed the same over the last few weeks too. Were getting plenty of Bass but they seem to "play" the bait rather than attack it. Even the fights for the larger ones have been quite dull lately.
They should back to their energetic selves after the Ban :!:

Good session - well done. I an empathise with you on the one that got away due to a broken hook. I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago - although my broken hook was a 2/0. It is very annoying to have that happen.
