old tilley lamp V new petrol north star

#1 Post by choco »

Dear All,

Here is the question should I overhaul my very old Tilley lamp, needs new globe, pump, starting bits and pieces or buy a brand new petrol north star one. Noted Tilley website offer all the parts for sale in the north of ireland

One of the reasons its become redundant is I cant find a supplier of parafin oil on the north side of the city?

Please anyone help : Where can I buy parafin oil on the north side Dublin.. in the past I have used garden centre lamp oil, it works but probably did not do the lamp any good..

I suppose another option is a good head lamp but tilley doubles up for the odd camping trip..

any info most welcome..

Wow, that's the third person I've heard of in the last couple of weeks dragging out the old tilley lamps and singing their praises. I heard they're great and give out great warmth too. Used to be all the rage in the days of lads using bells on the tops of essex beachcasters and mussels for bait at greystones. Memories. I try and get a good old one if they're not too expensive.

Nice.

I use the Coleman northstar myself and TBH I can't fault the thing. Cracking lamp, but as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The Northstar is very easy to light, but as I use Petrol, you have to be careful.
