People:me
Duration:3pm - 5pm
Tide:3.9
Weather:slight northerly breeze, slightly overcast
Bait:crab + lug
Rigs:various
Results:2 rockling + 3 dogs
Report:After last weekends comp i didn't feel like fishing for flounder - freakish amounts caught on saturday and sunday - so thought i'd try for a bass off the rocks. No luck bass wise, but the rockling were a nice change and i always enjoy catching dogs. Nothing happened for the first couple of casts, but had the first rockling after 30 mins on crab and it was 42cm with a full stomach, which makes me wonder about their breeding cycles, but that,s a different topic. For the next few casts i had a few bites, but nothing even resembling a bass bite. The next action was a double shot - a dog of 68cm and another rockling 37cm. This was followed by a dog i didn't measure. By now the tide had risen quickly so i would be leaving soon, and i packed up after getting another dog, this time 64cm. I got the first 4 fish on crab and the last on frozen black lug. Nice day and as long as there is no heavy rain it might be worth going again.

Calso bay is a good spot for dogfish and rocklings alright. I have had much more species off that beach than any other beach in East Cork/West Waterford. But the snags are a basta!d.

I might try there for some pollock in the summer instead of going to knockadoon, i've caught wrasse there before so the chances are there might be some pollock
