ballycastle and waterfoot again

#1 Post by minty »

People:me, brother and 20 or so member's of gadsac

Duration:6-11 at comp then 12.30-02.00 waterfoot

Tide:all states

Weather:a mix of rain and slight breeze and dry spells

Bait:rag mack and lug

Rigs:3 hook clipped and 3 hook flappers

Results:me 4 flounder ( 1 at the comp ) brother 1 turbot, 1 coalie, 1 whitting Gadsac good mix of coalies and flatties

Report:Met up with the lads from the club at Ballycastle beach and got the comp under way at 6pm, really good big surf running and i had good hope's of doing well :D (fished here last week in calm conditions and caught feck all), got peg 22 and after an hour it seemed that fish were being caught from peg 1-21, eventually landed a flounder but was gutted when i put on the measure stick to find it was only 18cm   . baits were getting stripped but no fish   . then i was told my hooks were too big   , well as they say "you live and learn ":D . the brother had came up to try out his new rod and reel and managed to get himself a wee turbort :D ( only 1 birdsnes on his new multiplier  ). headed to Waterfoot Beach after the comp to use up the left over bait, arrived at the river end to find the same amount of weed that i encountered last week, but just behind the square house was clean, caught a few more flounder 18-25cm and the brother got a 23cm coalie and a whitting, called it a day as the tide had dropped right off and the weed started moving in.
i'll try to get some photo's up later as i used my phone and need to transfer them over...
some times catching crabs is a good thing.........or is it...........?

well done minty. It was some surf alright. Lovely showers as well followed by thunder and lighting.

The first comp I've won by a flukey flounder on the last cast lol

Well done on not giving up and going on to waterfoot, i was on peg 7 and only managed a 22 cm flounder all night. Overall i think the fish were scarce, still the craic was good and at least the rain kept the jet skiers away.
