Greystones Steps 22-4

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

Me and my mate Muffdogg

3 rods, 2 hook flappers and one frankenstein boom rig I must have made in my sleep

Fairly rank Lug from Rorys, mack, squid, prawn

Weather fine but threatening to burst

8-11

Me: 1 3-bearded rockling, 2 whiting, 1 dog. Muff 1 dab, 2 whiting, 1 5-bearded rockling

Tide in and getting inner

We were going to fish the rocks opposite to the steps but there was a couple of lads down there spinning and to the wind would've been in our faces and made casting a bit tricky and we only had one decent torch between us! So we set up at the steps, I promised my mate a mini species hunt so we'd 6's and 8's with small baits.

Nothing but nibbles before it got darker, alot of phantom whiting bites which were pretty constant all night, good to see them still around because I had made a fish promise! ;)

Then just as it turned Muff got a tiny Dab (the fish I can't catch) it put a surprsingly big knock on the rod,

Next up I got would you believe my first ever rockling! A nice size about 26cm, Muff couldn't understand why I was so delighted with myself, slipperey fellah, Everyone else seems to pull dab, sea scorpions, rockling out of this spot but for me in just whiting, whiting ,whiting. Muff then got a double of a small 5 bearded rockling and a whiting (just to belittle my achievment), While unhooking the rockling the whiting disapeared and we searched around the ground for it only to find it had gotten up the sleeve of my jacket! I had one rod out far with the berkley flounder bait just to experiment it was getting nibbles but no action really.I had another whiting in close.

Muffin got another whiting and I got a decent knock on a rod I had cast quite close to the beach, Had a dog on and it was a wrestle with the telescopic Lidl carp rod I was using! Had to drag it in! Love getting the dogs, a nice sizeable fish!

Then as we packed up I found one more whiting hanging on the end of my hook looking confused. Smelly Lug was the bait of the day but the doggie took prawn tipped with squid and one whiting on mack belly.

5 species is pretty good, Ill try get the pics up later.

We both need to get new headlamps

nice one on the different species.

just to let you know aldi have headlamps next thursday. 5LED's taking 3 AAA's for 6.99. might not be great but could be worth having in the box as a spare if your bringing somebody along with you.

they also have a wind up torch/radio/phone charger in one for 19.99
