Report:
This was the first leg of the Connacht Gold Medal and the new Connacht League, fished to IFSA regs so 15cm limits applied (thank f*ck!)
Arrived late after getting stuck behind Sunday drivers and people who think having an Alfa Romeo entitles them to have a meet up and drive in convoy around Connemara for the day... muppets!
Also a bit tired after JP deciding we should drink vodka and red bull the night before (can't handle his pints
Conditions were not great, fairly calm, no surf, so no one was too optimistic about catching, however, as the wind got up it put a bit of movement into the water and fish were coming in right from the start. Took me a while to get off the mark as I saw fish come in on the pegs around me, but managed a small flounder to save the blank. There was no pattern to the fishing with flats coming from all distances, I had a double shot of turbot on sandeel at distance, others were taking flounder and turbot close in.
Winner had 9 fish (Saltydog), and the top 3 were all well ahead of everyone else. Finished with 5 myself so not too unhappy. A lot of fish were 16-19cm so wouldn't have counted under the old size limits, I would have had only 3 counters. Did see some decent size flats though, think the biggest was 38cm.
Good weekend for Saltydog with the win here and 2nd place in Glassilaun the day before. Well done Conor!
If anyone fancies a session on Silverstrand I'm probably heading out there on Wednesday evening to use up leftover bait...
