Report
i was still on the hunt for my first ever Bass and decided to give a local beach a go after work. i clocked out at 2215 and first bait hit the water at 2305. the forecast was for light s/e winds but the wind sock in work was lying flat without even a slight breeze and it was the same at the beach.
i set up the first rod with a 2 hook flapper with crab and razor and cast out. i started setting up the second rod when i noticed a good rattle on the first rod, i gave it a second for another rattle and struck. the line went slack with the fish coming towards me. i was winding furiously when i caught it up and after a good little scrap i landed my first ever Bass :D :D :D . only then did i realise i forgot my camera   . i measured it and it just about reached the end of the measure at 44/45cms. i got a quick pic on the phone and released it. very glad to see it swim away easily. then i realized in my panic i forgot to weight it. im guessing it was around the 2.5lbs but thats an uneducated guess. i put on fresh bait and cast out again and finished setting up the second rod.
a little while later while coming back from another cast i noticed a rattle on the other rod but whatever it was it was gone by time i got to it   . nothing else after that but i wasnt too bothered as i was more than happy with myself.
thats twice in 10 days that ive caught a targeted species on a first cast :D but both times they were the only fish landed
:
sorry about the quality of photo

cheers lads. hopefully ill be out again tuesday night for his bigger brother. glad to have the first one over and done with.

one other thing. i was casting when i came back and put the rod back in the tripod. i noticed 2 eyes glaring at me near my seat box. i thought it was a dog tryin to run off with my bait but when i got closer i saw it was a young fox. i got about 2 foot from him before he backed away slowly but still wouldnt go away. i pulled out the spinning rod and started swinging it trying to frighten it but to no avail. then he wandered down and sat next to the tripod as if he was guarding it. it would have made a really good photo but of course id forgotten the camera and my phone wasnt good enough. eventually i took a razor from its shell and threw it to him and off he went with it happy out.

Congrats Denis.... hope this is the first of many.

Well done on your first bass Dennis, your persistence finally paid off. The next week should be good for bass fishing so good luck on getting a few more before the end of the month.

nice one red first bass is always a great one.
We have friendly fox we regularly see down at our fave spot, almost eating out of our hands. And have seen others at other beaches around. Think they know we have some tasty?? :? food for them in those bait buckets.

the fox seemed friendly enough. didnt seem too bothered about me. my biggest fear was i had a spare trace with washed out bait on the seat box and i was afraid he'd try to grab that as the fresh stuff was in a bucket. he seemed happy enough with his razor and didnt see him again after that. cute little guy tho.
