What a difference a day makes!!
Having driven down from Belfast the night before, only to turn round and go home again on seeing the crowds of hoody mackerel bashers hogging the end of the pier, I took another run down tonight in the hope that the poorer weather would keep the little darlings at their playstations. My gamble paid off, as I has the whole pier to myself
After cleariing up about a dozen empty rig packets obviously left from the night before, I set up my main rod, and cast about 10 yards out, and started to set up the second rod. I kept getting lots of little knocks, but decided to let the rod sit and concentrate on getting a second line in the water.
Dropped the second line down the wall, and reeled in the first rod to find all of the flesh had been stripped of the mack, leaving only the skin on the hook
Had just started to rebait, when the tip of the second rod (cheapy telescopic) took a nose dive. After a good struggle, up came my first ever doggie
Got a big knock on the other rod about 30 mins later, and in came another doggie, a bit bigger than the first. it had managed to get the rig wrapped round itself, so took a bit of effort to unhook. Thankfully it was returned unharmed to fight another day.
All in all a great evening, especially after the disappointment of the night before
