a few small bass south wicklow

People:just myself

Duration:8pm to just after 9

Tide:almost full

Weather:mild and dry

Bait:rag, mack, razor,

Rigs:three hook, one hook rigs

Results: four whiting and four bass :)!




Report:headed to my mothers wednesday afternoon for easter and did a bit resulting in dabs and whiting.
headed down thursday and the weather was mental! didn't even get out of the car!
so today friday all was calm and promising after the stormy night before h.t. around 9pm and a full moon.
mind you my mack and razor was in the car boot since wednesday!!!:( and the rag was too!
headed to a spot hoping to do an hours fishing to find a group of guys settled for the night, tents, fire etc, i chatted for a bit and moved to another mark a stone throw from them but far enough to be somewhere else.
lashed the beachcaster out with mixed baits and rigged up my 4lb line spinning rod with a single hook rig of rag and lobbed it into the surf half expecting it to get washed back in.
within minutes the spinning rod rattled and i scrapped with a schoolie bass, quick pic and back it went.
another within minutes and then a whiting at distance on manky razor and another on manky mack!
two more bass and then two whiting on the beachcaster.
it got a bit iffy to continue as i couldn't stand and fish safely with my footing, nearly twisted my ankles a few times.
great fishing for just over an hour, bass were small butgreat craic on the light tackle.
funny thing was i caught the four bass all on the same ragworm which i bought on wednesday and was barely alive!
i reckon i would have been busy all night but was well happy with my catch.
still have the bait in my car :oops: :shock: and am gonna do a bit tomorrow or/and sunday
not looking forward to fishing back in dublin/greystones, mind you one of the dub guys showed me a pic of a nice greystones bass from earlier in the day that resulted from a misscast!
can't quite figure the image thing but will get pics up
species 2009, whiting :(, three beard rockling,.shore rockling, 5 beard rockling, flounder, lesser spotted dogfish,bullhuss, dab,bass(13), more whiting : pollock,poorcod,pouting, sea trout(the dodder!)brown trout,sea scorpion,mackerel, silver eel,
topknot:), cod, conger, corkwing wrasse,smooth hound.

sorry about the view, still learning :(
they are rocks,big rocks the fish are lying on :L i wish, nah the bass are 9/10" at most but
can well scrap on light gear, my mate Gar is dying to swff for bass and i can see why!
