fahan beach and lenan harbour wed 8th april 09

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me, jordan, fishermannumber1 and his son

Duration: fahan, 12pm-4.30pm lenan 5pm-3am

Tide: all states

Weather: mixed

Bait: rag, mack, sand eel, lug and squid

Rigs: pulleys and 3 hook flappers

Results: ME - 1 turbot, JORDAN - 2 pucker pollack, FISHERMANNUMBER1 -1 flounder and a coalie, HIS SON - 1 turbot and a flounder. (i think)

Report: we set off on a raymond hunt and after a kind invitation up to fahan from fishermannum1 we loaded the car and hit the road :D. after a quick stop off at don's for a coffee we were at fahan, but the weather was dreadfull   the wind was making the water quite choppy and don reckoned it might put the rays off. unfortunately he was right. we stuck it out until 4.30pm with don being the only one to catch with a solitary flounder, so he asked us what other fish were on jordan's hit and the ray hunt became a turbot hunt :D :D . lenan met us with strong sun, mild winds and no sign of the rain that soaked us earlier :D :D things were finally looking up. don's son was first into a fish landing a turbot and then a flounder. so at least our target fish was out there. we also pulled up some nice rockling and sea scorpions up in the bait net which gave us some hope :P then jordan got a couple of wee pollack and it all went quiet. around 8pm don and his son packed away to head home and we fished on awaiting the arrival of a turbot for jordan. after seeing 2 landed at this mark he was determined not to leave until he got one     :D . don had texed us to say that on his way home past fahan it was flat calm and ideal for the rays. but jordan was adament that he wanted to stay until he got his turbot    we had put out 2 conger rods and got what we thought were 2 runs on one of them, but after the third run jordan struck into it and pulled up a big edible crab who was happily munching our mackeral flapper     so a quick pic later we returned to the fishing. we stuck it out to 3am when jordan's eyes began to cross eachother (after all we were on the go from 7am)    but with no bites to show for our efforts we headed for home. we had a great day out at 2 new marks kindly shown to us by don (a gentelman and a scholar) and even got a bit of sunburn     but we will be back to get them another day when the weather is a bit more favourable

as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"

If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.
