red barn strand youghal 6-4-9

#1 Post by spindlefist »

PPl: Just myself

time: 9pm- 2am

Tide: low water at 9:45pm

weather: calm, clear sky, light breeze

bait: fresh razor and a dodgy 'fresh' mack

Rig: pennel and 3 hook flapper

results: 1 doggie

report:

So I was down in Cork for work, decided to stay out in youghal, try some fishin of the evening, but couldn;t get me hands on either crab or lug so made do with what I had..
Wanted to fish along ferrypoint, but as I don;t know the area and was fishing alone, didn;t want to go off into unknown territory in the dark.
So it was out down onto Red Barn strand..
nothing happend for the first 2 hours bar crabs relieving me of my bait...
then the bites came, miss 3 very good bites, then connected with a 4th, but the fishy came off....

I had started with 2 rods but after almost launchin the top half of one into the surf, tackled down to just the one... damn starlights..caught the line, caused a crack off and whipped off the top of rod..thank Jeez for Waders!

Then at 1:14am , with bait dwindlin, I managed to connect with what I thought or presumed was a small schoolie, until the culprit did that wonderful doggie trait- come up to the surface and get dragged in like a bag of old boots...
Was by no means a monster, only approx 60 cm , but saved the blank.... and was my first doggie of the year..
It also did a mean impression of the Joker .. :D :D :D

Will be back down in youghal this Friday and saturday, bringin some bodies(mate and our ladies), so may dare venture to ferrypoint or such...make em freeze for their crimes

Yeah, I really wanted to get crab, was in the tackle shop in cork, but didn't fancy paying €6 for 4 velvet swimmin crab....
Might gather some meself on thursday... was a nice night to get out anyhow, even with a minor result.. the sky was fairly clear and the moon so bright i didn;t need to use my headlamp! So bright in fact I even had a shadow on the ground!! :o
