Flat Rocks behind Dunmore East, Co Waterford 3.3.2004

#1 Post by kieran »

Flat Rocks behind Dunmore East, Co Waterford 3.3.2004 4-6 pm massive seas, sunny

Massive waves. Had to stand 10-15 metres back to be safe, could get nowhere near the painted marks. Cast from behind no 5. Tried grip leads but they got pushed into snags by the currents. Switched to watch leads, weak links and 3/0s baited with mackerel. Lost of few rigs and switched to lighter snoods to telling effect - a few hooks lost but no more rigs. to my amazement I caught five three bearded rocklings - which I have never had on this mark before. Contacted close in, right in the depths of the breaking waves! Small, maybe 200-400 grams but the last one was a nice fish of just short of 800-1000 grams, just short of the ISFC shore specimen mark in fact. All released back, albeit not gently!!!

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
