Just looking to know if anyone could recommend a good anchor for a SeaHog Commodore, that won’t drag the bottom in reasonable weather. Also where would be the best place to get one from?

7.5kg. Bruce should do fine.
Far more important than the anchor is the amount and quality of chain you use with it.
I have about 10ft of chain with an 8mm x 40mm link this with a 7.5kg. Bruce this will hold my 165 warrior on the Turbot Bank in a 2 knot tide

A 5kg one of these should do the Job. http://www.marineparts.ie/products/Gold ... r/459.html

You will also need about 16 foot of 8mm Chain, Maybe More if you are looking to Anchor in very deep Water. I have a similar setup tripped and it doesn't drag at all.

just dont do what i did and forget to have it tied to the boat when throwing over the anchor

got this anchor of gulf stream and 7 met of chain and it holds my 15 ft bonwitco no hassle

7.5 Bruce sounds about right but just remember the rule for anchoring................ chain the same length as your boat and three times the dept for rope :wink:

I have a warrior 175 and I use a 7.5kg bruce with 12' of 8mm chain, and it stops the boat like hitting the brakes on a car, I have used it on the turbot bank in Cork Harbour when I gave up fishing because of the tide, i am actually thinking of getting a 5kg instead, a buddy of mine uses one for a 25' avor with 20' of 8mm chain no problem.
And remember to trip the anchor in case it gets snagged.

got one of this crowd last year they have a couple of different ones Chane ropes shackles
i got a Bruce no problem with it not like them stock and plough they go through your boat if not stored properly

I use 5kg bruce, no ploblems holding anchor, use plenty of chain though. Can't remember how much is on mine, think its 18ft, i'll check it later and post.

I fish on my mates commodore and we anchor with a 5kg bruce and 20ft 10mm chain in depths of 400ft and a strong run of tide and it holds just fine.

Thanks for your input. Ordered a 7.5Kg Bruce from marine supplies in Swords for 56euro. And going with about 18 foot of heavy chain.
