Scratch on fugi ring
While doing an inspection of the rings on one of my rods i found the ring on the butt section to have what looks like a scratch on it.It doesnt seem to have cracked through just seems to be on the surface, but i feel it would be abrasive enough to damage the line. Its a fairly new rod and i dont realy want to get the ring changed unless i realy have to.Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a fairly new rod it should be still covered by guarantee. Go to your local tackle shop, provided you have the rod bought there, show it to them and see what they advise you to do.

Re: Scratch on fugi ring
personally id just get a new ring, but you could try using a dremil type tool to very carefuly polish the scratch away

Re: Scratch on fugi ring
If its an SIC guide it is probably chipped, they dont really scratch. If it is a chip then like Paddy said, try to take the sharp edge off the chip, even light emery paper or emery cloth will work, just be carefull you dont make it worse. If the chip is on the opposite side to where the line travels while you wind in that not to bad, casting wont do as much damage to the line as winding under tension, especially is the chip faces towards the reel.
That said though, if it needs a new guide then there is no way out!
Tom.

Re: Scratch on fugi ring
this is just an idea, it can be laughed at
.
if it is just a small scratch, try putting some clear nail varnish on it. a guy i know had a layer of tint on his car windows and it was starting to chip at the top of the passenger window. he put on the nail varnish and it worked a treat and stopped it starting to peel. it was still ok when he sold the car a few months later.
like i said, just an idea. might or might not work.

Re: Scratch on fugi ring
Rub a cotton bud over the scratch and see if any fluff catches on it, if not it's fine don't worry about it. If it does just replace the ring, cheap and simple to do.

Re: Scratch on fugi ring
if it's just a scratch then try the cotton bud trick. had a similar problem - try a thickish coat of varnish or Johnson's Kleer (or is it called Future here?) - which dries rock hard if you don't have a dremel tool or ultrafine sanding sticks.
