What fish?

#1 Post by daven »

Was out walking on woodstown beach in waterford the other night at about 9. It was full tide and there was lots of small fish (10 cm approx) jumping (looked like for flys) only about 5 metres from the shore. Thought they might be baby mullet but these fish were jumping clear out from the water so thought they might be baby sea trout. However I reckon they are neither. Could anyone tell what type of fish these were?

Probably Bass. Fished there before and quys down on the right hand side of the beach were plaqued with schoolies of .25 to .5 lb. I have often seen schoolies jump and play about what the reason is I am usure, social or to remove lice, feed its all possible. Anyway my experience with Bass if they are playing around like that they don't bite.

Same goes for most freshwater species as well... if you see them leaping out of the water you'll hardly ever catch them...
