Bug-eyed Whiting

#1 Post by beebub2 »

Was out on Wednesday and caught the usual selection of whiting. But one of them was bug eyed. I've never seen a bug eyed whiting before. Is it possible the reeling in damaged his eyes?? Anone seen a whiting before with both eyes sticking out of the top of his head?

The hook was in his mouth so it's not as if that affected his eyes. He seemed to swim away ok too so there were no visible signs of injury.

Have seen all sorts of deformities, one eye missing, mouth messed up, squat shaped so nothing would surprise me in the Irish sea.

Feck! Might have been a pouting. Definately wasn't a poor cod. Next time if I'm not sure I'll take a photo. Could have been a new species. Feck!

It was a whiting without a doubt in my mind. Everything about it was whiting save the bug eyes. Maybe Bug Eyed Whiting is a new species thanks to our friends from Wales and their wonderful power station.
