Non Stretch Snood Material

#1 Post by alby »

Just wondering does anyone use a good non stretch snood material, I find on some lines that once you catch a decent fish the rigs wont clip down anymore because of the stretch.

Just don't want to go through so many rigs really.

Hi alby i use Amnesia and Fluorocarbon and i have never had a problem with stretch :!: :!: :!:

when you tie up your rigs are you pulling them tight enough :?: :?: :?:

if you use adjustable rig clips then this wont be a problem

maxima chameleon is good but once it gets a knock or two it parts like cotton. depends what you're using it for. haven't tried stren. keep an eye on the diameter as it's pretty thick for it's breaking strain, just like me...

What about srt springs held in place with a stop knot you can adjust the snood if it streched a bit :)

Cheers Al, I was trying to keep things as simple as poss, I guess there's no real way around it.

Thought about using braid but that could slice throught the rig body in no time. Ah well!!!

Well i suppose you dont really need the srt springs at all..i actually dont bother using them any more myself, but the stop knots might help :)
or just try the line Denis and Eric use that seems to be working for them

I have started using power gum stop knots instead of crimps. I find them handy as you can adjust the snoods if the rig gets streatched or you need to change hooks on clipped down rigs. Working very well so far.

Hi,

Instead of powergum stop knots why not just have the crimps adjustable? i.e. don't tighten them fully. I set mine so I can just about move them under pressure - just make sure the edge of the crimp doesn't chaff the rig body when moving it.

I find after the first power cast or two even with amnesia all the stretch is taken out of the snood. I re-adjust my crimps at that stage and the rig fishes perfectly until I scrap it and throw it in the bin. Using crimps this way also makes changing snoods a doddle - does the same as a powergum stop knot will do but less fuss and hassle. If you're concerned about damage to the rig body up it to 75lb.

Liam

NB breakaway came out with this adjustable crimp with rubber in the middle but I've never had a problem using bog standard ones as described above so the breakaway ones seem like an expensive waste of money to me
