Rod and reel
Hi everyone ,
Its my first post so ill try to keep it simple.....after some light pear fishing decided to get a new new rod and a proper reel.....my budget is around 200-220euro so probably ill go for second hand rod and new reel.
Rod-PENN PPT VIPER EVO I. Multiplier Rod( i can get for 100 euro on ebay) or Sonik SK3 13ft 4-6oz mutli
Reel-Abu 6500CT Premium Mag Elite( that would be my FIRST multiplier reel).or should i go for Abu 6500CT Mag High Speed which is 15 e cheaper ? ( difference?)
http://www.gerrysfishing.com/shop_sub_c ... 74&tabID=1
Now I'm using Penn Powerstix Pro Surf Rods with LEEDA PIRANHA 6500 FIXED SPOOL REEL......
Any suggestions or comments appreciated.....

Re: Rod and reel
I would reccomend any of the diawa 7ht reels.I recently got a diawa 7ht (original ONE) for 90 euro inc postage on e bay.in my opinion they are easier to use than the abus.if you are getting a seccond hand rod go around the tackle shops and see whats on offer and what suits you. i would be very slow to buy a seccond hand rod on ebay. read a reveiw of the sonik that said they broke the tip when pulling free of a snag, but a mate has the penn and likes it. hope this can be of help

If yer not in a savage rush maybe go up to the Dublin anglin show valentines weekend and look around. You never know - you might pick up somethin there, usually a few deals goin at it.

Re: Rod and reel
ive used both the abus and the diawas and think someone getting to grips with a multiplier would have less problems with over runs which result in the dreaded birdsnest using the diawa they cast well straight away without much need for fiddiling around with them as oposed to the abus. also the diawas seem to last a lot longer for me anyway i have had one for 12 years and it still runs extreamly well and its seen a good few abus come and go. the penn rod looks a great deal especialy as you can see it before you buy it. had a look at reels on web page and they have all 3 in 7ht range. the ones i use are the first one but i have seen and casted the other 2 and they are excelent reels also..just depends on your budget

Re: Rod and reel
there have been a lot of tips breaking on the sonik sk3 13ft. rod of late.if you look on some of the other sites and its cost the owner as much as £70 to fix even though it wasnot there fault.which i think is shocking,so i would stay well clear of them.

+1 on the Ultima F1. I've only started using this line recently but I have to say its the best line I've used and I've have since respooled all my reels with it, its much thinner, more supple and knots much better than the rubbish I was using before.
