waterfoot beach 7/2/09

#1 Post by minty »

People: just me

Duration:3.30pm - 12.15 am

Tide:low through to high

Weather:mild, dry and calm

Bait:rag and mack (soaked in coffee to thaw it out)

Rigs:3 hook flapper and 2 hook flaper

Results:1 coalie ,14 flounder (10cm--33cm including my pb to date)

Report:Decided to head for Waterfoot beach,so packed up the gear, collected the bait and was on the road for about 1pm. Was nearly turning back when i seen the amount of snow lying in the glens as i was told to expect snow by midnight, made it to the pier about 3.30 and the lads on the pier had told me that nothing had been caught since they arrived at 11am. :x :x I was going to give it a bash at the pier for a while till the tide pulled in a bit, but with no bites i had nothing to lose on the beach at low water. Had been fishing about 2 hours before landing the 1st fish(flattie)and as the tide turned so did my luck. Beach started getting a little busy with a good spread of lads fishing along the beach.( was good to meet darryl from here who fishing next to me) With the tide on the turn and the light fading i was kept busy with the flounder and could'nt belive that i landed one at 33cm using mack soaked in coffee (needed to as it would'nt thaw out)
My personal best before the session was 21cm so i was over the moon :D :D .Was good steady fishing with just the one coalie among the flatties, called it quits about midnight as i'd been up since 7am and did'nt want to caught in the snow if arrived..............all in all a great nights fishing and all fish returned

was told by a fella up there that i'd be lucky to get a flattie until about april or so as they would
be off-shore spawning, unless i caught all the wee gay fella's i think he full of crap. yes rodger
the big ones were a good weight, i'd never felt any as chunky as them, just hoping to get a nice
cod now that my lucks in

nice fishing minty and darryl :D must have been a night of personal bests. francis and myself did'nt get there until 10.30pm. we must have walked past you   we were the only ones left on the beach until 3.30am. were you at the river end or down where the big fire was blazing? we both got good flounder to 30cms too and a new p.b. for francis :D :D we were at glenarm beach from 5pm and both blanked, so we headed to waterfoot to fish the tide on the drop to quickly put the blank behind us   gonna try greys point in helens bay during the week with dawsey if your up for a wee handy one. sure drop me a p.m. and let me know mate.
