New fixed spool for a Grey's BZE?
Does anyone have aany ideas for what reel to match to a grey's bze? looking for somethin fairly decent that can handle braid or mono for beachcasting. looking to spend about €100 or so. haven't been fishing in about 3 months so need to go back this season armed with somethin decent. any help would be appreciated. also, did anyone else have the worst season of all time last year?

Hi ronan is it the 12'6 version, you cant go wrong with shimano reels, if you have a look in the shore angling quest and ans section, there is a couple of recent posts one on shimano fixed spools and another one fixed spools worth a look some good advice there. Hope this helps.
Long time no sea.

Hows things Ronan?
If you are going to be using braid you'll be looking for something with decent line lay and you are not going to go far wrong with a Shimano and I'd suggest a front drag one myself. I suppose the other thing to consider is the size and weight of the reel and given the rod you are pairing it with, there is a good chance that you aren't always going to be using it with a tripod so something that isn't too heavy and balances the rod nicely. I'm not too sure what size fixed spool reel would balance the 12'6 3-5oz Bze, possibly a 6000 size? As you know I normally use a multi on my Bze but have occasionally used a 6000 Baitrunner and it seemed OK, if a little on the heavy side. Given your budget perhaps something along the lines of a Exage 6000 FA might be worth a look.

That little Ultegra looks the business, I didn't realize you could get smaller big pits if you know what I mean.

Ronan,
Recently got the 12'6" BZe. I have matched it with a Shimano EXAGE 6000FA. i haven't got around to test it out yet, but balance feels ok. I am heading out fishing next weekend, so will be putting it thru the paces and will let you know more then, if you haven't already bought.

Ended up going for the Ultegra 5500. Have to say it's a quality bit of kit. casting seems pretty good so far (not that I can cast that well yet). Loaded it with 15lb mono and just loaded it with 20lb braid now too - line lay is superb, lookin forward to getting out a bit more often and trying some light line braid fishing. maybe a running ledger setup? we'll see
