Bray Harbour 6-02-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and big mick

Duration:6-8pm

Tide:rising

Weather:cold,,,,very cold,,,otherwise not too bad

Bait:lug, squid and mack

Rigs:flappers,2+3 hook

Results:me 2 whiting and 2 x 5 bearded rockling,,,Big Mick,,2 x 5 bearded rockling

Report: Big Mick was out in a boat earlier in the day rescuing swans who were stuck in the ice and this put him in the mood for a few hours fishing. We headed for Bray Harbour as he had to be back for 9pm and stopped in Viking tackle on the way to pick up some lug. Met Diego from the site there (nice to meet you Diego  ) who was waiting for his supplies to arrive also. Armed with lug, squid and mack we set up at the Harbour. Sea was ok with a slight north westerly breeze blowing (this increased later on  ). Mick reversed down to the end of the pier and set up in front of the jeep with the intention of getting back into the jeep as soon as possible and watching the rodtip from the comfort of the front seat. I set up at the end of the pier and braved the elements  . Mick got the first fish,a 5 bearded rockling,, which unfortunately meant he had to leave the comfort of the jeep for a few minutes, to unhook and change bait  . I got a whiting soon after followed by a 5 bearded rockling. Then came a few large crabs,, but these are expected and it wouldnt be Bray Harbour without them. Mick got another 5 bearded and then had a crack off , while i got another rockling . At this stage the wind was getting stronger and as it was perishing cold Mick decided he'd had enough and wouldnt leave the jeep :? . I had a last cast which produced a whiting(and another crab!) so i was happy enough to call it a day/night considering the weather. There was nobody else on the pier, and nobody even walked it while we were there, first time ive ever seen it so quiet. On the way home we passed a few multiple pile ups on the M50 so we were probably as well to leave when we did. It was great to get out as last and hopefully the weather will improve soon..

Fair play on sticking it out and catching a few fish, it was bloody cold last night. I had intentions of heading out to Bray myself but I took one look outside and decided to spend the evening in front of the tv with a few beers.
