Re Mustad Swivels

Hi lads, spotted these Mustad Cross-Line crimpable rolling swivels for rig making the other day, Just wondering is anyone using these and are they anygood!!!!!!!

with the price of beads ,crimps and swivels why bother with expensive replacements ,if its not broke why fix it

I picked up a few of the Hiro ones. A bit pricey but hand to have with you if you need to replace a snood when your out. But a bit expensive for rig making I'd say.

Conger, I use these all the time for my flattie traces in size 7. I use 30lb body for my long flappers and these are perfect for it (before anyone has a go about using 30lb rig body, these are made for lobbing with a light weight in close thank you...). Just be careful not to over crimp them. I know there are some out there who intensely dislike them, for whatever reason. I on the other hand find them a brilliant time saving bit of kit and when you tie the amount of rigs I do, every few seconds saved help. I have NEVER had one of these fail on me and have taken umpteen fish on them with surprise cod and bass when scratching about to 6/7 lbs frequently.

Pete, I thought the thing to do (from reading the mags) with these light traces, was use a 4 way bead with these light long traces to prevent tangles.

How do these compare?

I dont like 4 way beads to be honest, I've had issues with the longer snoods looping around them and stuff. There willl always be a certain amount of tangling using extended snoods but I have more faith in the swivel, bead, crimp or the crimpable swivels than I do with the 4 ways. Thats coming from someone who spends most of his time arsing around in close with flappers....

do you use booms much? Just wondering?? If so, when and why?? Tryin to get the match anglers perspective on them.

I picked up the Mustads, could only get the size 10, made up a few rigs for flatties and whiting, really really speeded up the whole process, saying that will probably stick to the beads e.t.c for the heavier rigs...

Some swear by them, others at them, I dont like booms either shoreking, the less crap on a trace the better IMHO. Its a personal thing BTW and feel free to disagree, not saying I'm right or wrong, thats just the way I prefer to fish myself.

I dont really have much match experience but I will check these swivels out. they sound the business.

I find using the 4 way beads with long snoods on a calm day quite effective and use the booms on rougher days more effective. The wee plastic booms seem spot on for most occasions. I am messing about with the clipped booms to see what there like at the minute. I have had the usual flounder, dab and whiting on them. The only real problem im having at the minute is with the top snood not releasing when testing it.

pete I also use 20lb to 30lb main line with 6lb and 9lb flouro for scratching. the only problem with the light line is that its done after one session, but it works!

I havent got a chance to tie any rigs in a couple of weeks. . .The wee man is teething, so its fun in our house at the minute!

Made up rigs with the Mustad and used them for the first time on Sunday, they reall worked well espeicially on the whiting and flattie traces, definately recommend them now..
