Which of the flat fish?

I used to remember seeing flat fish close in on my local beach.

They we're pure white (same colour as sand). They would take off as soon as I came close, reasonable size too.

I know there's not much to go on, but I have not seen any pictures of anything resembling them(well in colour anyway) on the catch reports.

either flounder or more likley turbot judging by the colour they can be very pale depending on the sea bed they are feeding on?

They are turbot fella, Check out that flat rock at portnoo, its a belter spot in the summer for a heap of species

Do you mean the one to the left of the pier?

I have caught Mackeral there and some small pollock on a spring tide.Never tried rag and lug there.
Just in Front the pier itself I have caught Pollock,whitting, gurnard, wrasse and conger.

I saw the "Turbot" from the beach, when I was about 10. I have never seen anyone fishing the beach at Narin, that is where I'm looking to Target from the kayak. The problem is it's a big area and I have no experience in beach fishing. So I don't really know where to target!!

Yeah the one to the left of the pier, we caught thornies on it, on round the coast a bit if your up for a dander there is a couple spots for massive wrasse. My uncle fishing that spot all the time in the summer in the boat. I think he launches for the beach at rosbeg (the beach beside Joe's Bar). There is plenty of sea trout about there also.
Rosbeg beach is great for some big dirty lugworm. over to the left where the boats are. its an amazing place to fish and I am trying to get a house again this year. Have you ever tried the beach at the caravan site at (I think its called Tramore)

Never fished down that way.

But it's on my ittinerary this year.

The only time i've seen that beach is when there was a huge surf up. So I don't think it would be the safest on the yak. But if it's fishable I will try it.

I have went/ attempting surfing on that beach loads of times. There is good waves but im just rubbish at surfing. I think there is a good wee spot on round beside ardara as well that I was told by one of the locals. We never got to try it but maybe this year. do you get out in the yak much? they look the business

I was out on the yak quite a bit last year.

Really it wasn't a great year for it, because of all the rain and the wind.

But I have been out from Portnoo quite a few times. Mostly fly fishing for Pollock. But I also caught quite a few wrasse (one specimen, actually it was the biggest wrasse i've ever seen. Never weighed it so I don't know). 2 Congers , again not weighed. I also had a day or two with the macks.

It was my first year yaking, so this year I will be up for more. Waiting 'til the waters warm up. That's why i'm asking all these questions, wan't to be fully prepared when the good days come.

probably turbot, i actually saw one in millisle co-down in the summer only saw the one, the rest were flounders dabs and i caught a little plaice too.
