How long until bait is washed out?

How often would you change bait, if you weren't scoring?

mac 15 min
lug 5 to 10 min
crab 20 min
squid 20 min
razor 20 min
rag 15 min
sandeel 15 to 20
with the softer baits like lug it depends on the tidal run you are fishing into as a strong tide will obviously wash out bait quicker as would a strong surf crashing over your bait also the bigger the bait the better the scent trail  have you tried groung baiting with some finely chopped bait to improve your chances?it can often liven up a session

in competition usually 15-20 mins.. otherwise i chuck it out and leave it out till i could be bothered checking it, fish baits anything up to 40 mins, worm baits up to 30 mins..

often caught fish after a bait has been out for over an hour..

Same as steve for me in the main part.

Also depends on how cold the hands are, how busy you are chatting to your mates etc etc.

I recast bait last night for 5 maybe 6 casts, and was still catching fish on chewed baits.

I'd say 15-20 minutes would be the norm generally

dbrock, if you want a flounder go to Whiterock, early in the morning, when it's still dark, with the tide just beginning to drop and fish out right of centre, not too far out and you have a great chance. I've had two good ones from there recently and beebub had a good one from the exact same spot. Shamo had 2 from there yesterday evening as far as I can remember

Mack flappers, 10/0's and 250lb traces are bit of overkill on the flounder fishing

Dbrock, I may have been guilty of trying to teach my granny to suck eggs, or flounder as the case may be. Good luck
