waterford 26/1/09

#1 Post by seanie35 »

People:me and met up with art later

Duration:3 till 8

Tide:full @6

Weather:mildish

Bait:frozen crab, salted mussels, lug

Rigs:4/0 single hook flapper

Results:67 cm bass

Report:got off to a bad start breaking my fork after getting only 4 lug, resorted to the freezer and salted mussel. fished a pier first for a while and fed the crabs, moved on to a new spot and art was there. right on cue he got a bass 5.30 as per soluner chart. surf was a bit flat but still knowing there was one there meant probably more :D , art hit the road leaving me his leftover lug and i stuck a 5 up the hook and stuck 2 crab on the point. full over bite and great tussle i didnt think i would get it in but it tired soon after. 67 cm not sure what that equates to on the chart but felt about 6lb. first ever january bass :D :D

you just never know whats out there dan, i consider using the big baits a bit of a fault of mine , theres way more fish got on the smaller baits/more hooks set up, today wouldve been my thirteenth blank

What size are these lug? most of the ones I dig are 8 or 9 inches long, anything less than 5 inches I leave to grow bigger.
Sometimes I would use two of those with a full razor - should I be using even bigger baits?
Although most times when bass fishing I would use one good size lug with half a razor.

i always find that you get more fish with the way that you feel most most confident with.

Yeah around 8 inches would be average,,,,well so they say

Bait size is a personal preference IMO, Ive gotten some strange looks on beaches when people see the size of some of the baits I use !

My motto: Give em something they cant refuse :D !
