I would definitely agree with that - although not just a large bass - any bass.
The bass population off the East Cork beaches has been decimated by netters in December - reportedly using 3 mile long submerged nets that caught everything not just the bass. Some of those beaches are dead now - I have been speaking to anglers that fished them without a single bite unaware that the beaches were netted.

Personally I am surprised that those scumbags can read never mind use a computer - but just on the off chance that they can it is better to give no indication of a location where bass have been caught.

If you want to criticise someone take a look in the Irish specemin handbook under bass . Theres alot of bass in there from Tramore .

The netting is gonna happen if there is a website like this or not FACT.
Unless something is done about it soon.

Where are the sea fishery protection authority on this[separate group to fishery officers].They are the people most responsible for protecting our bass stocks. There are much bigger resources with these people to tackle the problem, but i suppose its easier to stay dry on land and check log books of the poor trawlermen who can't make their quotas for certain fish but can dump tonnes of unwanted BYECATCH   .
Agree with the point that these people who are netting are known to the powers that be and alot of anglers too   .But heres a poser if it was the salmon that were getting this treatment would a blind eye be turned to the situation,i'd doubt it.
Fact of the matter is over the past few weeks the poaching of salmon has been widespread and guess what, they got full time protection unlike the bass, thats why i'm wondering what the actual role of the sea fishing protection authority, does it have one.
What a laugh even saw an article recently in a waterford news paper about the trawlermen complaining to a local TD that they were been treated like CRIMINALS for failing to complete logbooks properly,by the seafishery protection authority, nothing about their compatriots raping the inshore coastline with gill and tangle nets

If you contact any of the fisheries boards they will give you the names and mobile numbers of all the officers in your area. I have had no problems contacting them when the need arises, if they dont answer, persist in calling or leave a message.
We anglers are being made a laughing stock of by the trawlermen in this country with their so called by-catches and poaching. Should the IFSA be taking a more active role in approaching the minister and getting him to enforce the law. It would be terrible to see the anglers taking matters into their own hands if a confrontation should occur but this has happened before in some areas and could easily happen again. We all can see the trawlers almost up on the beach when they are trawling, is the sea not big enough for them that they need to come so close inshore and desimate the few fish that are left to the rod angler. Given the rate that stocks are diminishing it will not be long before sea fishing will become a thing of the past.

Nige, Good to have the number of the offices but they will probably all be closed at the time we will be fishing, it might be better to ring the numbers you put up during the day, and get the mobile numbers of the bailiffs, put them in your phone, and ring them at the time you are fishing when you see a problem, and not the next day. If all the anglers took the time to make themselves aware of the numbers there might be a better reqsponse from the fisheries boards.
