Hair rig.

Has anyone ever tried a hair rig for bass/cod,
with a small hook with mack for bait to catch pin whiting, and then leave the fish on to attract a bigger one? (linked to a larger hook 3/0,4/0.......)

tried it a few times for bass and once for tope both times the bait (whiting )was torn apart by crabs :evil:within minutes :roll:

My p.b. bass was taken on a whole joey with a 4/0 through the lip/head.
I think a live bait could work better.........dont know.............
