Report: The decision to brave the elements was made thanks to met eireann and accuweather.com. Met eireann satelite pictures showed a channell of clear skies over Dublin during fishing time and accuweather predicted Dublin would be dry between 7pm and 11pm.
Armed with this valuable information we arrived at Killiney at 8.30 with intentions of heading to the tea rooms. The surf was impressive and the wind was coming from the right to left at what must have been near gale force. We walked onto the beach without the gear to test the elements and less than a minute later we were back in the car heading for Whiterock with the hope of some shelter.
Whiterock was better but the surf was rolling and the wind and rain was keeping visability down to a minimum. Bray was a very distant foggy glow and usually you can see clearly all the way.
Got set up and the first casts went out. Beebub had a bit of trouble getting his rig to hold with the incoming tide, with surf and wind pushing the line to the left at 90 degrees. I had a but more success but there was quite a lot of weed getting caught up in the line. This coupled with the wind made bite detection impossible. I pulled in a large piece of weed that had attached itself to a limpet and I claimed it as the first (and last) living sea creature to be caught that night. Glad to say that I practised catch and release with this one.
The gusts of wind were getting stronger and eventually my rod and stand went over sideways knackering the gears on the reel. That was it for me. Beebub tried a couple of casts to save the blank but it just wasn't our night. we had stuck it out for over an hour. The walk back up the steps was harder than usual but a reviving pint in the Druid's Chair improved matters considerably.
Can't wait to go again!

Fair play for sticking it out. And well done on the limpet. They have a habit of diving for cover and wedging themselves in the rocks
Looks like there's a window in the weather today. You might have more luck there today. Try some mussel and crab in close where the fish should be foraging on the injuries from the blow.

Didn't eat the limpet last night. I had brought my own chewing gum!
