Whats the best allround rig to use?

#1 Post by congermurray »

Well lads, Happy new year to ye all!!!
After a pretty dismal years fishing last year I´ve decided to change my tactics but the only thing i don´t know what to chnge them to. I´ve been using a single hook paternoster with a sliding snood on it fixed in place with powergum but it doesn´t seem to be having that magic touch so i was wondering if any of ye knew a rig that works better. and if any of ye are up for going for a session i would be well up for it. Just drop me a PM.
Cheers and happy fishing
If it swims then I´ll catch it!!!!!

Probably a good idea to have a bit of variety. As the other people have said - flappers, loop rigs, pulley rigs. Some other options would be a running ledger, wishbone rig and a bomber rig. You could try adding a feeder to a rig and see if it would help. See my thread on inline feeder rigs for this.

Like the other guys I use mostly 2 or 3 hook flappers for fishing in close and generally pulleys for distance (not that I can cast very far). The one thing I would add is that for the flappers I use powergum so I can easily adjust them, basically means I tie a standard rig that can be a be a 3 up of 2 up 1 down as required. I've also started using little gemini snood clips to attach the snoods so I can easily and quickly modify rigs on the fly. I usually have a couple of different types of snoods with me, different hook sizes/types, snood lengths and also some with floaty beads that kind of thing. Might not work for everyone but it works for me.
