tRAMORE 12.01.09

#1 Post by craigo »

People:Myself & Brownie

Duration:1 til 8

Tide:hw around 7

Weather:misty

Bait:lug & razor

Rigs:pennels & Clipped down flappers

Results:BLANK

Report:Headed out today with brownie for a session. We had to dig lug first so off to the back strand we went , passing the washed up net I saw last week we gave it a kick and out fell a mullett. . . scumbag netters

The surf was big with a big roll up the beach .
We didnt expect to get fish until at least half way up the tide because the water was so shallow.
First few casts resulted in weed building up around the leeder knot , hooks and the weight , so we moved up the beach 200 yards or so for another few casts to suss the weed , another few casts the same thing weed , so we decided to get some grub and head for the ladies slip.

We fished there from around 3 til we headed home with no success not even a bite .

There was another man fishing the slip when we got there he had no bites until we were heading home then bang!
FISH ON he had a little scrap with it and eventually got him to the wall and couldnt get him up so I had to grab the shock leeder and reef him up . On weighing the fish it was 12 1/4lbs the guys personal best he was delighted with himself and rightly so .

At least I / we saw a fish

Thats a fine bass, was the tide after turning when he got him?
Saw a big net one day washed up on the front strand near the dunes counted over 20 or so coalies say if I rooted around a bit more would of found more!! Sickning to see
Might try the beach next weekend if theres a nice surf running and also must try to convince the lads who dont like the place, wouldnt mind a bass to kick start the specis list for 09....

unlucky with the blank craigo :( but that guys bass is a cracker 8) 8) 8) as a general rule when we're beach fishing, any fine netting we find in the high tide debris we usually burn. ok it wo'nt do the ozone any favours, but it wo'nt get washed back out to kill any more sea life

This proves one thing I always say when Bass fishing.
Had you not see that guys bass you would have said it was a crap session and nothing was feeding when in fact there was a clonker out there, and more than likely not just one, waiting to be caught.
Ye just never know when bass fishing, they can be under your feet. You can reel in at the wrong time etc etc...
I wonder how many times we have walked off a beach for the Bass to come on the feed straight after, or we had been unlucky with casts, distances, pulled a plug too fast too soon and scared a 10 pounder off from striking.

Its stuff like this keeps me out for over 6 hours sometimes plugging, arms hanging off me coz your next cast can produce the goods.

Just a shame he kept it but each to their own.

You sure..? I dont want to start a row or anything like that but looks like the pic was taken back at the house so to speak. I could be wrong and like I said each to their own. I have given up trying to convince anglers to put their bass back. :-)

The Moon truely did benefit him . I cut my hand with the leeder wraping it around my hand before lifting it. I didnt realise that it was a specemin till it was half way up !

We were having a conversation about this subject before the bass hit and infact the guy said " not even a nibble all day "
after just saying the ebb usually throws up something at the slip.

Fine fish alright.

Would love to see a list of everything a bass like this has consumed.
Blennies, sandeels, crabs, joey mack etc etc....would be fascinating to see.

Its gotta be close to 15 years old and perhaps older so can you imagine all it has eaten in those years. Savage.
Has it been caught before and released...? Maybe it was once caught as a schoolie and released.

It has also spent those years avoiding nets, anglers, trawlers, seals etc so once again fair play to the lad for returning it.

Ye can argue its just a fish and indeed it is, but IMO bass like this deserve to be released.

That's a fantastic fish for this time of year.
Major respect to the guy for returning it, lets hope it can avoid the nets, poachers, predators for another few years!
