mackerel or herring

alrite lads whats your opinion ,which is a better fish bait macks or herring ,hope its the latter as i inherited a freezer full fresh herring :?:

Herring is lethal for cod..... :shock:

Herring would be their primary feed, well before mack.
(At least thats what I read in a book....!!)

No contest mate, Mack everytime. But Herring will still catch, maybe better just using it to tip off a worm bait. By the way, your hands will stink for an age after handling Herring.

i wouldnt mind a load of herring :wink:

much better flesh than macks does not go as soft.
great bait this time of year as they are in season :wink:
fished down there last week and seen the lads setting there herring nets.

mack every time,but then im not getting any cod!! :evil: might give the herring a go :D

Howdy i've had good sucess with herring which can catch when other baits aren't doing the business, especially so when boat fishing...... makes a fine cod bait too.

I normally use mack or bluyebut havent tried herring yet anybody know were I might get herring in cork

i use both mackerel and herring,
one thing about the herring, its a lethal bait for seatrout 8) on a session last year i ran out of bait, so i went to the supermarget and got a load of herring, i ended the session with 11 seatrout for under two hours fishing, all got on the herring 8) 8)
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"
right i'am off for a swally!!!!!!! so were's the F***'n purse!!!!!!!

i've never really seen herring about where is the best place to get it, i alway find mack good but poor flesh wise. i wouldn't mind trying herring

Your Local fishmonger should have them especially this time of year supermarkets carry them also and some tackle dealers will carry frozen ones as they're used for pike. Try and get them fresh if you can....tight lines :)
