Report: the day got off to a bit of a disaster as the plane delivering the rag to the shop was delayed and it was only coming in after we were due to leave

. so a plan b was hatched. i've heard of people using earthworm in the sea before so i bought a tub in case i could'nt get any rag on the way to the mark. luckily the shop in larne had some so an experemental session was on the cards

we arrived and set up on the beach with jordan fishing one rod with just mack and one with rag. i fished one rod with just mack and one with just mr erthworm to see how things would go. jordan was first to get a fish, and a double at that

a wee codling and a flounder on rag. then a coalie on mack. he then got another coalie on mack again. i was wondering what was going on with my 2 rods as i had'nt even got a bite yet

i finally got my first fish, a double shot of coalies on mack

phew, blank saved. then jordan decided to power cast his mack rod with a 4oz lead attached. not a great idea when the rod is only designed to handle 20-40 g

it snapped clean in half needless to say, but it did give us something to laugh about

. so jordans experiment went out the window at this stage and he started to bait up his one remaining rod with mack and rag

i stuck with it and got a couple more coalies and flounder on the mack. but the earthworm never got a knock all night

i know they work at other locations, but not here, and not tonight

. we both got some whiting, flounder and coalies before we wrapped it up around 10pm. it was bitterly cold and the wind was really starting to pick up. the beach was a lot more crowded than normal. with one guy fishing to our right, another to our left, and another 2 to the left of him. nice to see we were'nt the only nutters out getting our fishing fix

it was only when we were leaving that i got to talking to the guy to our left and descoverd it was minty from the forum

nice to put a face to a name, and a decent bloke to boot. you just never know where you'll bump into other forum users
