feeder rods

Does anybody use feedrer rods for sea fishing. I red in a book that they are great for fishing for whiting and flatties. So could someone recamed a feeder rod that would cast a 4oz lead or more.also it have to be under 60 euro

Err,

I think he means he is lookin for a feeder rod like the coarse anglers use. I know a lot of guys use quiver tips when fishin for the smaller species in competitions and the like so I think thats the sort of thing he is askin about. I'm not sure if theres much in the feeder rig thread about those rods.

Ah ok presumed it was the feeder rig as I've never seen anybody using a feeder rod for sea fishing before but as I've never tried the other i'll leave that call to someone who has tight lines.

THat is what i mean because I can t see bites off the bait robbing little devils :twisted:

But I would like to fish for them with lite rod so i can see the bites and maybe they might give a fight

Wouldnt be too knowledgable there now but I would think for the rod to be sensitive enuf for what you are talkin about it might have to be a 2 to 4oz rod. I think you can get some shore fixed spool rods that have different tips just for this sort of thing but not for the money you are talkin about. Someone mite know of a fairly inexpensive 2 to 4oz rod along the lines of what you are lookin for. There mite be somethin in the Salt range of rods or similar for €80 or less.

young rod if you load your reel with braid it more sensitive you may not need to change your rod your using

now this is just my two cents worth,
if your looking for a rod just for whiting and flounder fishing, try looking at some of the carp rods. some are fairy expensive but there is also a lot of desent cheap ones out there for around the £30-£40 mark, and they have a very sensitive bit detection, more than enough for flounder and whiting. and if anthing else lifts your bait Bass, doggie ect; then the rod should handle it. i have being useing one for years now and cant fault it, no matter what takes my bait i see it on the rod tip every time. the one i use has a 2.75lb tip and dose the job for me.

ive used a feeder rod on several different occasions and they aren't really that great for fishing in the sea. you need an ultra calm day for one, and you cant put a 3 hook flapper that far.

however, if you do have a flat calm day and are only catching small flatties they can be quite nice to fish with, last time i tried it i had a half decent flattie(30cms or so) and it didnt half scrap :shock:

so 9 times out of 10 they aint much good but if you already have one do try it in the sea, if you have the right conditions it can be great craic

I think Kev (MAC) has used feeder rods for flattie bashing in the past .....

Theres a fairly similar question in total sea fishin and they recommended match rods and also commented on how you postition the rod so maybe have a look at that also.

my PB wrasse was on a feeder rod (5.75pounds). running leger size 14 hook, 6 pound mainline 2 pound hooklength and half earth worm.

great scrap couldnt do nything with it

good rods for mullet too
