torn between 2 zzippys

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

torn between 2 zzippys

#1 Post by seanie35 »

I fish a lot of clean/semi clean ground mostly targetting bass (unsuccessfully). looking at getting either powertex bass or standard profile but kinda stuck which one to go for. for the profile whilst more exspensive its equal sections and should easily handle 5oz, for the powertex bass its cheaper but one piece is 8 foot long....not very car door friendly.....any zippy fanatics out there help me choose with the finer details

err,

two problems there now:
1. the bass will keep even further away from you if you are goin usin that kind of gear. they'l be terrified to do battle with you!
2. I will have to avoid any beach in west waterford that you are on owing to the shame of fishin beside a guy with that sort of a shore rod

best of luck whichever one you go for.

Sean,

Zziplex also make an equal section Bass rod....I got 2 of the first 8 made....they are very slim (18mm Dia Butt x 12'8" long) and quite pokey, they will chuck 2oz to 5oz easy.....the problem!! I sold one last week and the other is not for sale, I have a batch of zziplex due over 1st week in the new year....I asked if there was any made up and the answer was no....there may be some later though, if you wanted to wait, or you can go for either the standard Profile or the Profile Match (softer tip)

Hi Sean

I have both. Bought the powertex bass a couple of years ago and the profile a bit later. Since i got the profile rarely use the powertex. Profile is a bit more powerful but both rods will really do the same job. It took me ages to get used to the powertex. Not an expert caster but i normally manage pretty well but unless i was REALLY smooth with the powertex i was getting birdies with even relatively easy casts using a mag elite which i thought was next to impossible. To me the rod has a strange action and i struggled to get used to it. Anyone else found this? Profile to me is a much more forgiving rod. Even my casting cant get a birdie out of it.

Only my opinion.

Francis

Hi Sean i have a Penn powerstick 3 piece with 2 interchangeable tips and i honestly cant fault it. its a lot cheaper than a zzippys and for my casting ability it hasn't done me wrong.

seanie we all fall into the trap of a better rod will catch me more fish BUT sometimes we have to cop on. it aint the rod or reel but the angler

why don't you try to get out with a more experienced angler and you will be amazed how much you will learn.

all that i can tell you is that is what i did and i didn't realise how much i have to learn

thanks Pat and Pete
