Hey Guys
New member here. I have been using this website and recommending it to others for many many years but I only joined recently.
Cracking Cod the lads have caught there but please please can you give some indication of where you are actually catching them rather than rumour and innuendo??
I have over the last few years met a good few of the Shore Anglers that use this forum and I am always glad of the sound advice and tips given form ye but I have to say I do not understand the secrecy that ~ 70% of ye undertake when putting up the shore reports.
We don’t need exact GPS locations (but if you want to post them please do
 ).
What is the point of a shore report if we are not told where it is?
Here was me thinking that this was meant to be some type of angling "Community”??
I would not consider myself to be a "Dimwit" but from the initial reading of this shore report I was going to head over towards Bray this evening, however after having a good read of the posts maybe I am one of those Dimwits who takes the posts at face value.
Usually do me East Coast Angling in Greystones, Ennerreilly or Kilcoole.
I also do a lot of shore angling in Clifden and have a few good marks there for Ray and Wrasse and Gurnard that I would have no problem sharing with others.
When people keep these marks secret do they really think that their spots would be invaded by hundreds who will kill everything they catch?
Personally I very seldom kill anything for the Pot.
I love Shore Angling for the scenery, the sport and the fact that up until now it is FREE!!!
MK
P.S Use Circle Hooks Always if you are fishing for sport!! They come out easy, no internal damage to the beasts..

Kaner, it is every persons right whether or not to reveal a mark. You must remember that for every registered user on this site there are many more who just log in to read reports, gather info and contribute nothing, up until today, yourself included (no offense intended by the way but its a fair comment). Sometimes this is used harmlessly, sometimes it isnt. Its not just anglers who read this site, its open to anyone, thats worth remembering. Beaches get netted, fact. Unscrupulous people turn up on good marks and take away large amounts of fish, Fact. On that basis, when someone has caught something decent, particularly high value fish like cod or bass then I for one prefer totally for the mark to be kept secret from the general public. I'm not so sure about sending lads on wild goose chases either and I'd prefer not to see that but putting a report up naming times, baits, rigs and tactics is well worthwhile regardless as to whether the exact mark is given away. If you dont want to reveal an exact location, then a county is perfectly acceptable.
Long term registered members of this community help each other out. It costs nothing to send a PM to someone and ask but expect to trade info not get it for nothing particularly when it comes to marks. join the community, contribute and be amazed at the number of real friends you will get of it and the sheer amount of info thats there. You get out what you put in after all.

Couldnt have put it better myself Pete.
Kaner : Once you get known on the boards peoople will give you more info. I for one dont post my bass marks but have sent PM's to a few of the "good guys" with them, exact locations, best times to fish etc etc.
There are too many poachers that cast an eye over this site to post details of a run of Bass or Cod to.
There are also the anglers who keep more fish than they should too so its just protecting our stocks so to speak.
You can learn froma catch report without knowing where they fished. What bait, trace, techniques etc etc..
As for Alby n the lads not posting their mark, if it was me, not a chance either.

"When people keep these marks secret do they really think that their spots would be invaded by hundreds who will kill everything they catch?"
yes they do !yes it has!and that,s why we have pm ,no offence but some anglers put in huge hours fishing different marks to find the hotspots and when they are producing we will and do share the info by pm but if the info only goes one way then whats the point?
i personally will always give a county ie north wicklow or south wexford and not point people in the wrong direction ,dont forget its not just anglers who trawl the web
 looking for marks ,
one other thing i DO FISH BRAY HEAD and have had codling from it at this time of the year bigger than 8lb
 are they their now
theirs only one way to find out

Sent you a PM Corby...
That's all fine and dandy until someone actually goes to Bray Head looking for these Cod marks, slips, breaks a leg or even worse disappears forever....
Contribute nothing?? I would like to think that I have steered 100’s of people to this website over the last few years.

OK fair point I only joined recently and of course I will contribute as much as I can going forward.
As stated previously I have met a good few members from here and we have shared information and marks etc and I am very thankful for it, but ….
Been fishing since I was 4 years of age I’m now 36 and yet to meet any of these unscrupulous people you speak of when shore fishing.
I know it happens and I am not questioning your logic as I have met the poachers while out Salmon Fishing.
These types of people are in all aspects of Irish society.
Paranoia should not rule the roost… How does that phrase go??
“There are plenty of fish in the sea”
MK
Here is me first tip, when fishing for Ray into Clifden Bay from the White Lady side, abandon the strips of Mackerel approach and use a full squid!!!!

Kaner wrote:I do not understand the secrecy that ~ 70% of ye undertake when putting up the shore reports
As Pete says the forums are read by many people that contribute nothing and some may use it to gather information about good runs of fish for illegal netting.
We were having a good run of bass on some of the East Cork beaches in November - myself and a few others posted up shore reports without mentioning the locations other than that it was East Cork. Then early in December that whole stretch of coastline was netted. Maybe they do the netting at that time of year every year but maybe they also keep an eye on the shore reports and knew that the bass were shoaling off the beaches - it wouldn't be too difficult for them to figure out which beaches they were.
So in future when I catch as bass I will be even more vague on the location - "South Coast" should suffice - as I also do a bit of fishing in Waterford and may even roam over to Wexford this year that shouldn't provide too much information to scumbag netters

Re: bray head recession session number 3
Firstly I'd like to say I appreciate the input the lads doing have put the report up have put into this forum. Every one has the right not to reveal a mark as long as they give a general region. However It's completely wrong to put up the incorrect location even if it is a joke as this can be easily missed. I only briefly glanced at this and not knowing bray head would of thought this is where the fish came from. Further more for the moderators once they know this mark is not Bray head should at least remove the false information
In the past incorrect information such as made up reports of double figure bass and photoshopped pictures have been removed or corrected once recognised. Has something now changed?

Fair point.
Just to reiterate, there is no obligation on anyone to divulge a mark, but please don't directly mislead people.

Re: recession session number 3
the venue the cod was taken from produces every year
when the cod start to show all anglers that now the venue will fish it
before i joined the site which i get great info from and injoyment
i saw a picture of about 13 or 14 codling on the bank heading for the freezer
im not saying every one take home all there catches
ill take 1or 2 cod for the pot each year (if i get any)
if that mark which is not big enough to hold a large amont of anglers
was put up on the site id say you would have to que to get a spot
as not many marks are produceing
so may the best way to keep every one happy is not to post your catches at all

Hi ye pete
I would't say that at all- you don't have to post the mark in such a situation

Re: recession session number 3
Have to be honest I never coped after reading the initial report that it was a joke. Ok the pic did get the suspicions going!!
I agree that false information should not be posted but I can certainly understand people not wanting to give exact locations away. Again I'm sure if people build up an amount of trust on these boards and share their own reports information may then be shared via pm's.
Now speaking of which
I am going fishing on Friday night and it will be in Wicklow and my target is Cod! This is purely for sport and no fish will be taken home. Cause my wife has clearly stated not to bring any smelly fish home EVER! If you feel you can trust me me and want to stir me in the direction of a particular mark I'll greatly accept any PM's given. I have never caught a cod and to be honest a 20cm codling would do me. I can use my silly east coast LED light and all!
I'm planning on going to a place that rhymes with a tennor and Dave from Clondalkin's sur name. If that is a good spot or a particular spot there fishes well please feel free to let me know.

Hi Kaner,
firstly welcome to the site,i to used to be looking at the posts for along time as a visitor before i joined up and have'nt looked back since made loads of friends and even got my wedding ring back[long story].You say you have'nt met any unscrupuous people when fishing, well then what about the people who take everything they catch big or small, especially during the summer months from the piers .etc
These people watch this site carefully and they are out there hence guys keeping stum on specific marks, which i do myself not to mention the OTHER types.Like rockhunter this year less description on marks but will pass on info to my buddys by pm,if asked.Just take a trip to various places around the coast and you would meet these guys i guarantee it and im not just refering to the anglers originally from eastern europe there are plenty of our own who are as bad or even worse.
As for plenty of fish in the sea,me thinks this saying is a bit outdated, should read there used to be plenty of fish in the sea, till mankind got too greedy

Story of my life!!!! Cheers for that dbrock, wanted to head a bit further south but the thoughts of riving home after are putting me off.
