There is great fishing in Clare at the moment and the bass are being caught on the beaches on lug and sandeel's around spanish point and leahinch there is also some pollock being caught from rocky marks all over clare and the more remote the better as too many people fish the same aul places and have no interest in adventure as they prefer to fish from cappa pier for convience.

There is also turbot to be caught from haughs beach near carrigaholt on fresh sand eel or mackerel and fish in excess of 4lbs are a common catch.

I also saw an english angler catch a red cod of around 5lbs along with a bass from the rocks between leahinch and the strand on the south side of the town this can be dangerous due to slippery ledges but he was using fresh peeler at maximum range I recon he was casting around 175yds one of the longest casts I ever seen wiht bait.

The fishing potential in Clare is tremendous..................
