South Wexford 1/1/09
People:me
Duration:4 hrs
Tide:flooding
Weather:SE
Bait:frozen and fresh lug, mack and squid
Rigs:pulley pennells
Results:blank
Report:First session of the year and a good 4 hour drive and a blank. Drove down to a mark which i had visited previously but hadn't got the chance to fish. A light SE was forecast but arrived to find waves crashing in. Setup at about 3 PM and the plan was to fish through to high water at about 9 ish but by 7 and with no bites and struggling to hold bottom decided to cut my losses and head home. Nice to meet a local guy (hi Phillip) who reassured me the conditions were as bad as he had seen and made the fishing difficult to say the least. I thought i had just turned into a crap angler.

Dear FMCN,
If you are going to travel down from the north, send an email to me first. I could save you a trip or put you on a half decent spot.
Regards...

Thanks Ashley. I'll take you up on that offer. I like to get down to new marks as often as possible.
Century man: How do you know what beach i was on, unless you know Phillip. Did he fish after i left or was he the only other light i saw, which was well over a mile away.

FYI
YES I DO know Philip as it happens...
I havent a clue what lights you saw as I wasnt there myself (could have been Tuskar Rock maybe)???
All I know is that a good friend of mine had a good cod of 6lb close to 9pm.
I'm sure Paddygoodfish will post when he gets round to it.

Century man, not sure why your being so hostile. I only asked how you knew what beach i was on and i know a headlight from a rock even from a mile away.

As I said I know nothing only what I was told and shown as I wasnt there myself.
The Tuskar is 7miles out anyway so it ruled that one out LOL

Re: South Wexford 1/1/09
Lads, lads!! (or girls....
).
Apologies about Century mans hostilities - he's just a bit sick he didn't go down either!
There was indeed a nice Cod taken around there about 10pm - however there was a huge surf, a savage amount of weed and conditions exactly as you described.
You had the right bait and you were on the right marks - just unfortunate in timing...
I guess we all have to put these things down to experience. You win some, you loose some.
I fished a mark 1 mile to the west of where you were for two whole weeks before Christmas, and blanked every single night
.
(I know there's fish there, hence why I kept going back!!).
You should take up Ashley's offer, as the weather can affect different marks in different ways at different times of the year. Its a shame you went to all that effort for a blank. Give us a PM next time your considering a trip down...
Good to see a report all the same, even if it was a blank.

Re: South Wexford 1/1/09
Thanks to both of you. Hard to judge someones sense of humour online if you don't know them. I'll be back, excellent beach but as i am sure Phillip pointed out, not the easiest to fish that night. It was a matter of stick it out for another couple of hours and get home at 2 or 3 in the morning or leave at 7 and be tucked up before midnight. Obviously made the wrong call. Still a long day i was digging lug at 8 am. I'll drop one of you a PM before my next trip.
thanks again
Francis

About 10yrs ago I fixed up an old spinning rod that had seen better days.
Nowadays I'd just buy a new one but that was then.
Anyways, I goes down to that same beach and big rollers were crashing in etc etc.
Was a case of casting the lure and legging it backwards or get wet. Guess what,. I had 4 bass in 30mins and that's true.
All around the 4lb mark. That was class.
Went back the next day same tide and time etc and NOTHING.
JUST the way it goes./

Re: South Wexford 1/1/09
No bother, mate.
A PM ahead the next time, can see you fixed up with a local phone number for fresh Lug, which you can ring ahead and book - and pick up on the way to the mark...
(Then you can stay wrapped up in bed till 1pm!! - like Century man
